Are you missing any of these 15 critical fitness secrets?

It seems that everyone wants to know the secret to this or the secret to that. So, I thought I’d give you 15 insider tips to elite fitness in one handy-dandy list.

Note: speaking from personal experience, just ONE of these fitness secrets could save you years of frustration.

Secret number 1: Hard work. If you aren’t willing to put in a big effort, then you can forget about succeeding. Think about that next time you put in a half-hearted effort.

Secret number 2: Consistency. And no, consistently falling off the wagon doesn’t count.

Secret number 3: Focus. If you keep doing random stuff all the time, that’s like playing the lottery with your results. The odds are against you.

Secret number 4: A powerful reason why. And you’d better get this one right. So, why do you train?

Secret number 5: Fun. Or, pleasure. Or, even intrinsic rewards. Call it whatever you’d like. Just do what you want – what you love – and what you’d do just because. This is a secret of the masters. Just don’t over-think it.

Secret number 6: Commitment. To yourself, your family, community, and the world around you. Commit to the pursuit of excellence in all that you do because they’re worth it, and so are you.

Secret number 7: Habits. They either lead you toward your goals or away from them, and they make or break your success. Speaking of which, you do have goals, don’t you?

Secret number 8: Adaptability. Rarely do things go as planned. Those who adapt the best and the fastest will achieve their goals in much the same way.

Secret number 9: Patience. Greatness in any pursuit does not come easily, and rarely comes quickly. The long-haul is the only way.

Secret number 10: Humility. Get rid of your ego. Stop doing stupid things. Take baby steps.

Secret number 11: Discipline. Don’t give up at the first sign of difficulty. Do it anyway.

Secret number 12: Simplicity. Einstein said, “make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.” If it’s complicated, you will struggle.

Secret number 13: The basics. Commit to using them, practicing them, and then eventually refining and perfecting them. They will serve you well for a lifetime.

Secret number 14: Practice. Yes, practice; the basics, patience, discipline, hard work, and everything else on this list. The skill of success takes practice. So, stop thinking you’ll get everything right from the start and giving yourself false expectations that will only lead to frustration, self-doubt, failure, and worse.

Secret number 15: Personal responsibility. Nobody is going to do it for you, and nobody will ever care more than you do right now about your health, fitness, and quality of life – no matter what they tell you. So, own it.

Hey! What did you expect? A magic pill or secret formula? Tsk Tsk.

  2. Nice list John.

I have found my secret point at #4: A powerful reason why.
The reason i am doing fitness and pushing it all the time is because i want to be more healthier and it’s because i feel great when i am fit.

This reason is always on my mind and it really helps me to get my shorts and shirt on and start sweating. We, who sweat a lot, know how hard is that.
