Exploring Tactical Gymnastics (TACGYM) During a BodyFlow Practice Session

Tactical Gymnastics (TACGYM) is an upcoming fitness program that applies gymnastics-based movement skills for tactical applications. It is scheduled to be released by RMAX International in the next few weeks.

I don’t know much about the program yet, but for those that are familiar with the Circular Strength Training System, it appears to be a BodyFlow-inspired TACFIT program. I started using BodyFlow years ago after reading the book and learning from the DVD’s, which are comprised of over 30 unique movements and several flow chains. Since that time, BodyFlow has evolved into Prasara BodyFlow Yoga (PBY). I know. It’s confusing!

My personal PBY practice has become a restorative module in my overall training program. I will often perform a short session of 10-20 minutes at the end of the day to wind down and relieve some residing muscular tension. PBY is also an outstanding tool for a cool down routine after a strenuous training session or for an active recovery session to release deeper tension every once in awhile. There’s a lot of information about Prasara here on Physical Living. Feel free to search the archives for more info.

The following video was taken during one of my evening Prasara BodyFlow Yoga sessions (the 1st half of the session). Though it has a different purpose from tactical gymnastics, it contains some similar movements to give you an idea of what to expect from the upcoming TACGYM program.

(you’ll just have to watch to see if that’s really a face-plant or not)

Prasara Yoga - Lizard Flow by John Sifferman (my first self-made Prasara Flow)

I recently created my first Prasara Yoga flow and have called it Lizard Flow. Up until now, I’ve been following stock programs from Prasara Yoga including the Prasara A Flows, FlowFit, Ageless Mobility, and BodyFlow. Lizard flow was created to compensate for the demands I’ve been placing on my legs recently. It’s mostly for [...]

Kong Flow Prasara Yoga Demo Video

The Kong Flow is a Prasara Yoga Flow that is based on a variation of an animal-based movement called the Kong. I’ve been practicing this over the past week for fun – following my coaches advice to try one motor-moron movement each day. The Kong Flow is unique in that it actually self-compensates via hip flexion and extension, making it an excellent Prasara flow for the hips. It’s short and sweet and lot’s of fun to hop and roll around!

Beautiful Montage of Human Movement: Prasara Yoga Demonstration

For this Friday, I have a fun video to share with you. I think this is a marvelous display of human movement by my coach, Scott Sonnon, the creator of the Circular Strength Training system. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is beautiful, artistic movement – yet the purpose is not to impress others – this is not a show, it’s just a part of Sonnon’s daily personal practice.

This clip is from a documentary Scott filmed about Prasara Yoga. I haven’t spoken about yoga much on my blog, but you should know that I practice regularly and use the techniques Scott teaches. Prasara Body-Flow yoga is one of three ‘wings’ in the CST system and it has literally changed the way I train dramatically. Its inclusion in my program has ensured my consistent gains in progress as well as protect myself from injury, among many other things that are beyond this short blog post. Prasara Yoga is like the glue that holds the rest of my training program together.

There is so much benefit to be had from practicing Prasara Yoga, but for now, I just want you to enjoy this short video.
