The doorway pull up bar is great because of its portability and sturdiness. I got a nice doorway pull up bar for Christmas, and I gave it my full review in this four minute video:
Doorway Pull Up Bar Review by John Sifferman
Like I said, the greatest thing about this doorway pull up bar is its portability. I wouldn’t buy into all the promises they make during the infomercials, but this is a nice doorway pull up bar for its intended purpose – pullups. Do not use this for pushups, situps, or dips – it wasn’t designed for them and could be harmful by placing your joints at awkward angles under load. Also, don’t expect to be able to do kipping pullups with this either.
I would recommend anyone weighing less than 250 lbs to get this doorway pull up bar, just make sure to check your door frame for damage before using it. They can be ordered at Amazon.com here:

Yes, the doorway pull-up bar does work the abdominals, and it’s the best alternative if you don’t have a dip station on your multi-gym system
thanks for the really in-depth review — just what I was looking for regarding this product!
I’ve got the Powerbar which is really similar, I love the fact that it DOESNT leave pernament damage to my doorframe too.
The advantage this seems to have over the powerbar is some more comfortable grips. Doesn’t look like is collapses flat though?
The Pro Fit Iron Gym does not collapse flat. It can be disassembled in a couple of minutes.
John,
I bought an Iron Gym. It’s great. I own one of the top gymnastic
clubs in the country & would like to be a direct distributer of your
product. Please let me know how. Sincerely,
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your comment. You’ll have to ask Pro Fit about how to become a distributor. I’m not sure how that works.
Best regards,
John
Hi John,
I bought one of these bars not long ago, online.. I think it’s a quality piece of equipment, however, it doesn’t fit my doorframe properly.. My doorway is too wide. I’ve tried to find some sort of extention or adapter. Do you happen to know where I might be able to find something like that?
Thanks, Bryan.
this might work for you, although you probably found something by now…I found this during my research, I have no idea if it’s a good product. It’s supposed to work for wider door frames.

Hi Bryan,
I don’t know if Pro Fit has an extension bar for their product. If it were me, I would go to the hardware store, and buy some pipe to go on either side of the bar, then wrap it in pipe insulation.
Hey John, Just wanted to say thanks & also that the review you’ve made for the Iron Gym was right on point! Awesome & Informative Video. :)
You’re welcome, Brandon. Glad I can help!
I purchased the Iron Gym pull up bar for my boyfriend for Christmas- unfortunately the unit will not work with our door frames. We live in an older, plaster wall home with very deep door frames. The bar is slightly too small to utilize in our home.
Thanks for the great review! It seems like the pull up bar would be good to have just for its convenience. It looks like something you could stick in your bag and travel with too. (Then again, you can always use some trees for pull-ups if you want to travel light!) :)
Hi John,
I was just wondering, what type of walls do you have? Are they drywall/plasterboard. The reason i ask is that my walls are plasterboard and i am concerned that they might crack with the strain?
Hope to hear back,
Thanks.
Graham.
