Leave a Comment, Win a Book: Free Gift for Physical Living Readers Interested in Fat Loss

A good friend of mine, Tom Venuto, has offered to give away a free copy of his best-selling book The Body Fat Solution: Five Principles for Burning Fat, Building Lean Muscle, Ending Emotional Eating, and Maintaining Your Perfect Weight. This book swept Amazon.com’s best sellers list when it was released last year in hard cover format and has already helped tens of thousands of people in their struggle with bodyfat. This book is very unique because it’s not a diet or even a training book per se. It’s actually received its greatest acclaim and positive reviews as a book about the psychological and emotional aspects of fat loss.

One of the major theme’s in the book is that as a culture seeking a solution for fat loss, we’ve been asking the wrong questions. We’re accustomed to asking questions like “What nutrition or training program should I follow?” – but this is not the most important question. The real question that you should be asking is:

“What makes me follow my program?” And, conversely, “What makes me quit my program so easily?”

The Body Fat Solution offers THE solution to finding those answers out for yourself. After such great success, The Body Fat Solution was just released in paperback, too, and Tom is willing to give a paperback copy to one of my lucky readers. The best part is that it’s painfully simple to enter the contest.

Here’s what you need to do in order to enter…

The Body Fat Solution, national bestseller

1) Leave a comment below, telling me why you should be selected as the winner.

Ideas: Maybe you need a better education about fat loss. Or, you’ve tried to lose weight and failed many times before. You could be an emotional eater, struggle with your self image, or have never had the motivation to see your goals through to the finish. Even if you’re already in great shape, you may have a good enough reason to win this book. Tell me about it.

(500 words or less, please. And longer comments aren’t necessarily better. I’m looking for quality.)

2) You must be a subscriber to my Physical Living newsletter.

This contest is a way for me to give back to my loyal readers and subscribers. If you’re not on my mailing list, then you are not eligible to enter. If you’d like to sign-up for the mailing list, then visit the Newsletter Sign-up Page. Subscribers receive a few benefits that regular visitors don’t (such as being eligible for contests like this one).

Contest Rules

The Prize:

1 autographed copy of The Body Fat Solution (paperback) by Tom Venuto. To my knowledge, the only difference besides the actual binding is that the paperback has an extra appendix with fat burning meals plans that were not included in the hard cover. (note: there are no customer reviews yet because it was just released this week. If you’d like to read some reviews about the book, check out The Body Fat Solution (hard cover version).

Contest Deadline:

January 14 at midnight PST.

Choosing a Winner:

One winner will be chosen by executive decision.

Eligibility:

You are eligible – yes you. This prize is only available to residents of the 48 contiguous states. (If you don’t live in the U.S. and you win, I’ll forward you a download link for Burn The Fat, Feed the Muscle instead, and another winner will be chosen to receive the paperback book).

*Update: Tom has just informed me that he would be happy to ship the book anywhere in the world – that makes EVERYONE eligible to enter. If you don’t live in the 48 contiguous States, then you will have a choice of either receiving the Body Fat Solution paperback book or the Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle ebook.

Other Notes:

-Remember to use your primary email address in the comment board. If you don’t, we won’t have a way to contact you for your shipping address.

-One comment per entrant, please.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Even if you don’t win the prize, you can still take action today to achieve your fat loss goals. There are mountains of literature on the subject, including some archived articles on my blog. And with the cost of paperback books, you can purchase a copy of The Body Fat Solution for a very meager investment.

However, if you want something a bit more, something that will guarantee you lose fat permanently and naturally, then listen up. If you’re serious about fat loss, and want to put in the time to maximize your results, and if detail-oriented hard work is right up your alley, then you’re probably ready for the advanced techniques contained within Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle (BFFM). Whereas The Body Fat Solution is more geared towards people who struggle with compliance to a fat loss program, BFFM is catered to a more serious type of person who is willing to put in the work to achieve the results they’re seeking after.

BFFM was designed to be a complete and definitive guide to nutrition for fat loss, based on the bodybuilding / fitness / figure method of eating. The majority of BFFM is devoted to nutrition, with ancillary chapters on setting goals effectively, weight training, and cardio. In my opinion, BFFM is where Tom Venuto really “spills it” and teaches everything he knows about burning fat and building muscle. It’s the most comprehensive resource I’ve encountered on the subject. If you’d like to learn more about Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle system, visit the official site at www.BurnTheFat.com. Or, you can visit Tom’s fat loss support community at www.BurnTheFat.com/InnerCircle, where members “burn the fat together” using the BFFM system.

Good luck and thanks for your participation. I look forward to hearing from you!

  1. It would be great to win this wonderful book. I don’t have a personal copy. I borrowed it from our local library a few months ago and it helped me built life changing philosophy.

  2. Vanessa Rodriguez

I would love to win a copy of The body fat solution to help encourage me to work hard towards my goal of becoming between 12-15% body fat. Tom’s words are so encouraging and always seem to stick in my head:)

  3. My journey with weight loss/fitness began many years ago… for as long as I can remember I’ve been overweight. I was chubby as a child and it continued into my teenage and young adult years. My mother was overweight as well and understood my unhappiness and in an attempt to help me (as I’m sure her support always came from a loving place) insisted we diet together. The two I remember most clearly were Diet Centre and Weight Watchers. (To this day I will not use that word in my house! I hate DIETS!!)

As for exercise, it wasn’t until Grade 12 that fitness truly began to seep into my life. I began bicycling with a friend and found a love of biking. But it was my water aerobics instructor who truly planted the seeds of change in my mind. She reminded me that it had taken me 16 years to put the weight on my body and I should allow myself plenty of time to take it off.

When I graduated high school I was practically 200 pounds, wearing a size 20 and had a body fat percentage of around 35%.

Since high school, I gradually dropped a few pounds here and there and began to exercise more frequently. I hired personal trainers and joined gyms, adjusting my nutrition and exercise to achieve a few results, but it wasn’t until 2 years ago that things really began to change for me.

In December of 2007 I hired a personal trainer and wrote out my goals for 2008, the year I’d coined the ‘The Year of Erin!” Like many, I have physical aspirations for myself and always felt I wasn’t really giving it my all. So, I decided 2008 was going to be about Erin – no dating, no extra curricular activities – just focusing on myself.

What began as a journey of fitness and nutrition, soon turned into a search to understand my psychology of eating – what was driving my decisions and why. I began seeing a ‘body talk’ practitioner and half way through 2008 started seeing a psychologist and through both gained a lot of insight into my behaviour and my emotional eating patterns. I’ve filled journals with my thoughts and learning’s and had many conversations with friends and family.

I’m currently 35 years old and my physical and mental evolution has been just that, a learning process where I’ve moved from following a diet plan laid out by someone else to beginning to understand (on my own) which foods my body LOVES and which foods don’t work for me. I’ve also realized that physical exercise makes me feel like I’m the ‘king of the world’ – I often leave the gym on such a high that I truly believe I can do anything I set my mind to!! I’m now 170 pounds, wear a size 12 and have a body fat percentage of 24%.

BUT – My journey is not complete. My original goal weight, when I began two years ago, was to get down to 150 pounds and as a side – I’d love to see my body fat percentage at around 16-18%.

A new friend of mine recently introduced me to Tom Venuto and explained a few of his theories to me. I am eager to read Tom’s books and integrate his fat loss strategies into my routine – I believe Tom’s methods will prove to be a great asset on my journey to being the best me I can be!

  4. I just finished 50 days with Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle and it really worked. Lost 5.7% body Fat and 15.8 pounds of fat. I am so happy with the results I plan to continue on for ever, well the current plan is 150 more days.

But I am in Alaska, not the lower 48 so I can’t enter. The long dark winters where everyone hibernates (well curls up and eats) could really use the book. Alaska has been a state for 50 years.

    1. Dianne, you did a phenomenal job with our Burn The Fat 50 Day Challenge – congratulations for your success!

Tom has just informed me that he will ship the book anywhere in the world, so it’s not just limited to the 48 contiguous States.

  5. I’ve heard nothing but positive things about this book. Whether I win a copy or not, I plan to check it out. I’ve been successful to date in losing 40 lbs and 8% body fat, but I’ve reached a plateau.

  6. Well I already purchased “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” and I was going to lobby for the free copy of “The Body Fat Solution”…but, after I read Erin’s story above, I am going to set aside my personal desires and say that she probably deserves this book (after writing all that). Good luck in your quest Erin and God speed!!

  7. Paul Sanguinetti

I am a 42 year old man. At the beginning of 2009, I have never felt worse about myself. It wasn’t a mid-life crisis as I’ve been feeling this way for years. At 5’9″ and 250lbs, I was also at my unhealthiest. I wanted to be healthy again, but I didn’t know how to do it, or where to start. Add to that depression as I am the same age as my mother was when she had her first heart attack, and the heart disease claimed her at 54 years old!
So, while surfing the web for the answer….lo and behold….there was Tom’s book. I linked to BFFM site, and liked what I read, and not only purchased the E-book, but joined the inner circle as well. There was the light, and I was on my way. I figure that since Tom was from New Jersey…he’s gotta be alright!

In October I was in a bad car accident. I was hit driver broadside by a red light runner. Lucky to be alive. I broke my Fibula, tibia, Ulna and Radius all on left side, as well as 2 ribs. And I am left-handed! Also suffered a blow to the head, which was not serious in the end. I was fortunate the leg breaks were clean, and they healed fast. Arm took a little longer. While bed-ridden, I developed pneumonia! That was rough! While my partner was there for everything and took great care of me, no one cookes like me!..LOL

I gained a few pounds, but-that was expected, and I know I lost muscle. But the one thing I didn’t lose was hope. I knew that that BFFM was there when I was ready to go back. I started physical therapy right before the holidays, and am already walking with no limp. While my arm is still weak, it gains strength every day. This week I am back to the gym doing cardio with my doc’s blessing.

I firmly believe that if I was still in the shape I was at the start of the year, the outcome would have been different. I honestly beleive that Tom’s BFFM system was put in my path for a reason. It changed my life.

I am a big advocate for working hard and working smart. I look forward to 2010 being the year that propels me into the rest of my life!

  8. Kia Ora (hello) from New Zealand. I have been following the BFFM lifestyle now for about a month now and really happy with the changes Im seeing. Not just with my body but with my attitude as well. My concept of food has changed dramatically (eating one of Toms apple-cinnamon high protein oatmeal pancakes as I type). Everything in the book made sense, with good explanations of the science and reasonings behind the concepts. Tom dispelled many of the myths surrounding losing fat and gaining muscle and did so in a common sense manner that was down to earth and easy to digest (much like these pancakes!)

  9. Dear John,
Thank you for this amazing opportunity.
I am a huge fan of Tom Venuto.
He is a phenomenon in the industry and my one and only fitness and nutrition guru. I love his direct way of attacking scams and his simplistic but evocative style reminds me of Hemingway.
An autographed copy of his book might just as well be the thing to get me to that ideal body fat % to see my abs. :)

  10. I’m trying to finish something I started in 2007…losing 100 lbs; I originally weighed 246+ lbs and at 5’3″ that’s not healthy at all. I have lost 50lbs, but have been on a plateau for about a year now. I really think this book can help me achieve my goal to be a healthier person, inside and out. Thanks for the opportunity!

  11. I started a 5 week fat loss challenge at my kettlebell gym Monday. This book would be a great help! Thanks!

  12. This book is absolute gold!! This is the only book that should be on the shelf of the fatloss section at the bookstore. I do not need to win it, but if I did I would use the one I have now to loan out to people I meet in life that need help.

  13. Hello John,

I am always interested in learning more about diet, health, and fitness, especially the psychological aspects. I think that psychology and food addictions are two of the most overlooked aspects of having a healthy lifestyle. I would love to read this book!

  14. The reason I believe that I should be selected as the winner is because I begin each day with a positive attitude, telling myself that I AM A WINNER! As an active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces, daily fitness and nutrition is critical to my job of serving our great nation. By utilizing the information in Tom’s new book “The Body Fat Solution” I would be better armed and educated to help those that I lead each day. In my mind, there would be no greater feeling than helping others succeed in reaching their goals related to health and fitness.

  15. I NEED this book. I’ve been working out for 3 years and there are changes in my body but those few extra pounds are not going away. I feel my motivation going away. I believe this book will help to get rid of those extra pounds.

  16. Last year I lost a lot of weight, and a whole lot of LBM. I got from a really chubby dude to like 5% body fat. But since last summer, i started gaining weight more and more, belly keeps getting bigger, and I don’t really have an idea why. I’m kinda doing the same thing as i used to do! (I admit.. I’m not working my ass off as I was before, probably eating more and never gave any importance to the psychology of fat loss)
I guess and I hope that this book might help me understand how I can stay in shape and more importantly stay motivated to be lean “for life”, not just one summer and then fall off the wagon..

  17. Hey john, im a big fan and wish your site was available years ago. im 40 next week and have always been active through martial arts, yoga and climbing etc. through your site i have dicovered a treasure chest of resources, information and motivation and more to the point you are actually endorsing your site by training and living your principles not just preaching do’s and donts.
At the moment iam loving the movnat stuff and can’t wait for spring to come to get out there and play.
They say life begins at forty but i say life begins when you get off your behind and start doing to thing YOU want to do despite what others might think and if that means running barefoot in the snow, climbing trees and rocks, or generally having a good time exercising then do it and have fun but be safe.
i think sites like yours are they way forward as us zoo humans are forgetting what we are capable of with just our bodies and our human spirit.
keep up the good work with your site john – now can i please have that book it would be excellent to read and digest whilst waiting for the spring to come :)
    Simon Bailey

  18. Hey Tom! Loved the first book, can’t wait to read the 2nd one! I’m just starting again on this weight loss journey and I hope to make it the last “ROUND TRIP” that I ever make!!

Your books really give me inspiration and lots of intelligent, well thought out steps to take. The only way I’ll fail with these books in my corner is to just not do it!
    Thanks!

  19. I would love to get this book for my mom who has started going to the gym, but needs a complete lifestyle change before any real weight/fat-loss happens. This book may be what she needs to escape the bad cye she has been in for 25 years.

Thanks you both for your blogs and keep up the good work informing us, challenging u, and encouraging us as we strive to be healthier poeple.

  20. My wife is currently working to get back into shape after having our two kids, this would be a great gift to help her stay motivated.

  21. I manage a team of engineers working for the U.S. Navy in Sasebo, Japan. Many of my team members are overweight, but have made the decision to do something about it this year. We started a “Biggest Loser” contest January 4th, and will determine a winner on April 30th. At 6’1″ I weighed in the lightest at 190.8 lbs. I don’t have much chance of winning the purse (did it more to motivate than actually win), but promised the others I wouldn’t come in last either. I’ve completely cleaned up my diet, am working with weights three times a week, and am running or cycling after work. I’d like to make a good showing in April, but can use all the guidance I can get, and am sure this book would help me a lot. Please consider me for the win!

  22. I want to burn body fat. clear, simple and DEFINITE goal!! i know this book will make me achieve my goal.

  23. Hello, I think that I could really lose those extra stubborn 15lbs from this book and also help my sister who has had a little bit of a weight problem too due to her partial handicapability. I am also part of a group that a friend and I started in order to lose weight and this book would really help myself along with many others in this group.
Thanks again for all your help and advice!

  24. I’ve never gotten to read one of Tom’s books. I would love to read and apply it to my fitness goals.

  25. I am 29, in good shape overall, but I would like to lose some bodyfat to… impress the ladies! Just being honest here, health surely is a concern, but at my age it comes second!

  26. Love Tom’s info! His writing style is very pedagogical and his information is valuable & a great stimulus for real results. I eat it up & take copius notes, applying knowledge to my life. Besides, when is there a time not to be in the best shape of your life?

  27. My weight gain began in 2002 when I was 13 years old. Each year after entering high school I continued to put on additional pounds. Throughout the high school years I tried various different diets but I never stuck with them and ended up gaining any weight I lost back. I continued to gain weight each year until 2007. This was the year I was at my heaviest. Seeing pictures was awful and I was not happy and didn’t even like looking in the mirror. That year I started working out with a workout partner and lost 20 lbs. In 2008 I joined a contest at a local part and lost another 14 lbs. After the contest I ended up gaining all the weight back because I didn’t learn how to eat right. I knew if I continued to have bad eating habits I’d be back up to 200lbs. In 2009 I entered another contest and lost 20 more pounds. At this point I was down a total of 40 lbs since 2007. I vowed that this time it would be different. I was going to stick with my goals and change my lifestyle completely. As of today I’m down a total of 57lbs! I went from a size 16 to a size 8. I have a body fat percentage of around 28%. To reach my goals I need to lose around 18 more pounds or whatever my body weight will be at for 20% body fat. Not only do I look differently physically but I have a new outlook. Food is fuel not something that is there to make me happy. This point is actually something I learned from my sister. I’ve receive some help from her throughout my weight loss journey and if it wasn’t for her I would not be where I am today. She has really motivated me and she is the one who told me about Tom Venuto’s book. I think his book would be the additional support I need to lose the remaining weight and keep the weight lost off for life!

  28. Hi John. I just stumbled upon your youtube channel today and started watching all your vids. I then clicked on your website and saw that today was the last day of this contest and that I could possibly win a great book. So here’s my submission.

I have had high bodyfat since being a teen becuase of my diet. I was an athlete in school and was always what you would call regular looking I guess. In the 11th grade my basketball team had a free bodyfat test that was administered using electronic nodes that were attached to several places on my body. I was told I had 30% bodyfat at that time. Here I was an athlete and 120 pounds (5’6″) and thin. I entered the military after HS and after 4 years of service I was 155 pounds and having to test to not get into trouble for being at the edge of my weight limit. All the while I was active but had a horrible diet. Well after the military this trend stayed with me through 6 years of being a deputy sheriff. At the end of those 6 years I was around 175 pounds. Fast forward and I am now 36 years old and 200 pounds!! I am probably close to 40% bodyfat by now maybe more and I hate myself. My husband and I are making an effort to clean up our diet and we have started working out again after some crazy things happening and us having to move twice. I want to be around for my daughter (now 3) and be able to play with her. I am afraid that if I do not change now that I may end up having a heart attack at an early age. I am on the right track now and I am ready to change my life forever. I feel that having this book will help me reach my goals. I will do my best either way but having some idea of how to lower my bodyfat will greatly help me. Thanks for your time.

  29. My dream is to lose 5-6 kgs more and gain some muscle definition. The Body Fat Solution sounds like the book I need to get me on track. I know there is no magic bullet and hard work doesn’t work alone. If I can get an understanding of how to put it together I’ll be on my way. To win a copy would be amazing. I don’t believe in going on diets or New Years resolutions, just plain ‘health lifestyles’.
I’m having a really good day today, I feel great, the weather is perfect, but this makes me want to sit down and eat. On these perfect days I think about doing lunch with friends, this is lovely but I always end up eating to much and having a few drinks (alcoholic). The drinks then make me want to snack after lunch, and it goes on . . . . . .
When I’m having a bad day and feeling a bit depressed my thoughts always go to eating. On days like this I want solid wholesome food. This is usually bulking in carbs.
When I’m feeling really motivated and have a great bodyweight workout, I feel I need extra food, as the energy burns so do my hunger pains. I’m not sure what is the correct way to eat around my training sessions?
Even when I’m not motivated and can’t get myself to workout I want extra food.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a bad eater. In fact I’m a very clean eater. (I do love chocolate though, this is a big weakness). I would have some form of takeaway maybe 4-6 times a year if that. This is usually on the best of the worst side aswell. I love healthy food, I take my lunch to work everyday and snacks, and we cook dinner every night. We only dine out about 4 times a year for B’days.
It’s just that I have a problem with feeling hungry. When I was younger I use to get low sugar attacks quite regularly and just need to eat on the spot. This has stopped since I’ve been eating more protein. The problem is psychological I’m sure. So I don’t get this feeling, I will eat lots of fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts during the day. I struggle to lose any weight even when I’m working out hard. Sometimes I have lost 1 ½ kgs just to put it back on after one bad attack of eating more than usual. Christmas was a real struggle, I can’t say no to snacks when they come out. Maybe it’s because we don’t have those things at home. Another psychological thought I’m sure.

    Please help, Jamie Louise
Ps. Thanks John for your great site, I am a CSTer and love the way you work this into your workouts.

  30. The contest is now over, and all entries have been considered by myself and another mystery judge (aka my better half).

    *drum roll please*

Congratulations to our fourth entrant, Erin, who has won the contest!

Erin, Please check your email to redeem your prize.

Even with only 30+ entries, it was very hard to decide on just one winner. I wish I could have given out free copies to everyone, and there were several of you who really touched my heart with your thoughts. It was very hard choosing just one!

Thank you all for your comments. We’ve got a great community here at Physical Living, and it’s all because of you.

Keep an eye out for more contests in the future.
